The first exercise we will study is below: Re Note Exercise: Metronome: 80 Video:
We can also play the same notes from a different position: As you will see in this video, we will play the Re note with all holes closed. After producing the sounds correctly, play in whichever position feels more comfortable for you.
Practicing these exercises not only once but several times, even until memorized, will help us greatly. Let us play at a slow tempo, then fast, then faster, and even much faster, and reach the level where we can play the sounds without looking at the notes. Do Note Exercise: Metronome: 80 Video:

Rest Signs and Their ValuesRest : It is the sign that indicates a short or long pause in the human voice or in an instrument. Reading a rest sign is, of course, also reading music. When reading notes, just as we count note values, we also read rest signs by counting them in the same way. There are whole rest, half rest, quarter rest, eighth rest, sixteenth rest, thirty-second rest, and sixty-fourth rest signs. There are seven rest signs in total. Whole Rest Sign: It is the sign placed under the 4th line of the staff, and its value is four beats. Small exercise: Metronome: 80 Video:
Half Rest Sign: It is the sign placed on the 3rd line of the staff, and its value is equal to a half note. Small exercise: Metronome: 80 Video:
Quarter Rest Sign: As seen, this sign is written between the 2nd and 4th lines of the staff. Its value is equal to one quarter note. Small exercise: Metronome: 80 Video:
Eighth (1/8) Rest Sign : This rest sign, which has the value of an eighth note, is written between the 2nd and 4th lines of the staff. Small exercise : Metronome: 90 Video:
Sixteenth (1/16) Rest Sign : The first hook is written in the 3rd space of the staff, the second in the 2nd space, and the tail extends down to the 1st line of the staff. Its value is equal to a sixteenth note. Small exercise : Metronome: 50 Video:
Thirty-second (1/32) Rest Sign : The top hook is written in the 1st space of the staff, the second in the 2nd space, and the third in the 3rd space. As seen in the image, the tail extends down to the 1st line. Its value is equal to a thirty-second note. In Turkish music, the thirty-second rest sign is not used. Sixty-fourth (1/64) Rest Sign : The top hook is written in the 1st space of the staff, the second in the 2nd space, the third in the 3rd space, and the fourth in the 4th space. As seen in the image, the tail extends below the 1st line. Its value is equal to a sixty-fourth note. In Turkish music, the sixty-fourth rest sign is not used. Our Goals at the End of This Lesson : - We recognize all notes from Rast pitch to Muhayyer pitch. - We can play the exercises in this lesson from memory, even without looking at the notes. - After completing this lesson, we move on to the next lesson. - By practicing long tones, we strengthen the sound produced from our ney. |
